Welcome to the SHAC ATTAK

An 8km Hybrid Tech Race held in the stunning SHAC Lagoon

Part of the South East SUP Series for 2022

What is the event all about?

The SHAC Attak is an existing new race in its own right, with the 2022 event being its inaugural year. To add to the excitement, this year's event is also part of the new GBSUP sanctioned South East SUP Series. 

The race is an 8km distance in a new format called a Hybrid Tech. These races are the best of both worlds, Distance and Technical races on Flat Water.

Who can take part?

The event is open to paddlers of all abilities. The SHAC Attak aligns with the GBSUP Divisional Paddler Classifications.

What are the race divisions?

Your time over 2km is used to align to the below Divisions. 

Division 1 – 13:29 and under 

Division 2 – 13:30 – 14:59 

Division 3 – 15:00 – 16:29 

Division 4 – 16:30 – 17:59 

Division 5 – 18:00 and over

How do I set my Division?

Paddlers must complete a 2km time trial on the board they are using for the upcoming series or race. To verify your 2km time and Division, you must complete the Paddler Verification form on the Haywood Sports website. Full details on what you need to do can be found here.

What are the timings for the day?

Paddler Check-in - 4 pm to 5 pm
Competitor Briefing 5 pm
Race Starts from 5:30 pm
Prize Giving - 7 pm
Event Close - 8 pm

What is the South East Series?

GBSUP is pushing to build a new structure for SUP racing in the UK through their regional series development programme. As one of their pilot series, the South East SUP Series (SESS) combines three individual races into a final series classification.

Additional Details

Location & Site Facilities 

The event is held in the heart of the Surrey Hills at Buckland Park Lake, Betchworth, just outside Reigate.

With stunning scenery, this former quarry site is now home to the Surrey Hills Adventure Company (The SHAC) who are hosting us for this race. On-site there are full changing and shower blocks, a restaurant and scenic walks around the lake.

As this is a GBSUP sanctioned event, the race will fall under their regional series rules available here.
