Welcome to the 2022 Paddle Logger Medway River Raid

A 10km paddle race through the centre of Maidstone

Kent SUP Racing was set up with an ambition to bring national level racing to the county, inspiring locals and visitors alike to paddle some of our counties best waterways, taking in the history and culture of Kent.

The Medway River Raid is held in the spirit of the Dutch conquest in 1667 and the Raid on the Medway. Our event honours the conquest by being a mass descending on the river outside the stunning Allington Castle.

Following last years inaugural event we are delighted to bring you the 2nd running and for 2022 we are delighted to be working with Paddle Logger as our title sponsor. Paddle Logger very much align with the vents and Kent SUP Racings values and we are very excited to have them on board for 2022.

What is the route?

Paddlers will head upstream from Allington Lock past some of Maidstone's most recognisable landmarks and through the town centre itself before heading to the halfway mark at 5km. On the way, the fleet will pass Allington Castle, the Archbishop's Palace and the Gallagher Stadium, to name a few landmarks.

The halfway turn will be beyond the Bridge Mill Way Play Area, where paddlers will then head back downstream to the finish outside Allington Castle.

When does the race start?

The race will start at 10 am from Allington Lock. Full details for check-in time, logistics for board drop-off and associated timings will be sent out to all paddlers and posted here in an event schedule.

How do I enter?

Entry is through Webscorer, where you will complete your entry form and select if you would like an event t-shirt. To enter, follow the link at the bottom of the page here

Who can take part?

The event is open to paddlers of all abilities; we only ask that you can be sure of completing the 10km distance inside of two hours. This is due to restrictions on the water we face with boat traffic.

How are paddlers categorised?

We are adopting a division system to categorise paddlers. This way, you are competing against other paddlers at a similar speed to yourself regardless of what board and age you are.

Paddler Divisions

What are the divisions?

There are 5 divisions in total and they are categorised by the below time over a 2km paddle.

Division 1 – 13:29 and under

Division 2 – 13:30 – 14:59

Division 3 – 15:00 – 16:29

Division 4 – 16:30 – 17:59

Division 5 – 18:00 and over

How do I know what division I am?

Each division is categorised by time over a 2km paddle. Simply time yourself or use a recent paddle where you take your total time across a 2km distance. The time you set for your 2km time must be on the same board you will use for the Medway River Raid Event

Do I need to know my division before I enter?

Ideally yes, we would like to keep registration as simple as possible throughout the event. If you do however need to change divisions or don't yet know your 2km time, please select the division you think you are in and then confirm once you have completed your 2km time.
